Do you need to let go of your hurts and start forgiving?
It’s strange but being as human as we are , we keep going back to our hurts . Nursing our hurts means our wounds get deeper and fresher with no signs of healing. It’s difficult to forgive specially when you have been wronged and deeply hurt. Technically you have every right to remain that way .
However let’s see if the Bible has something different to says about forgiveness .
- The Lord’s Prayer teaches us to forgive others (Mathew 6)
- Jesus says that we need to forgive others seventy times seven . Means en number of times . (Mathew 18-22)
- We need to partake in the Lord's supper in a worthy manner so that we don’t stand in judgement(1 Corinthians 11:27)
- We need to get reconciled to our brother and then come and offer our gifts at the altar (Mathew 5:24)
- When we stand praying, if we hold anything against anyone, we need to forgive them, so that our Father in heaven will forgive us our sins ( Mark 11:25)
The secret ingredient to be joyful and to lead a blessed life here on this earth is to have a forgiving attitude at all times. It actually works to your advantage as it not only blesses you , not only heals you in you mind ,body and soul, but also makes you a better person .
Bless people when they persecute you and when they speak bad about you . Then allow God to vindicate you.Your heart needs to be right with God and honestly that’s all that matters .
I am able to speak on it as I have been so unforgiving. This attitude of unforgiveness always made me sick , weak in my bones , made me unhappy , dull and moody . I allowed myself to wallow in pain and anger . No matter how hard I tried I was unable to let go and forgive .
However I have been blessed with great mentors and spiritual friends who have lead me in the right direction and spoke the right words into my life . The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The very fact that being a sinner myself if God could have forgiven me and lavished me with His love , who am I to not forgive those who have hurt me ? Therefore when any negative thought and bitterness comes " I take them captive and make myself aligned to the thoughts of God ! 2 Corinthians 10:5 . And if I need God to answer my prayers , then I need to be right before God and forgive others [ Mark 11:25]
Forgiving someone is like releasing the person from your heart and freeing yourself and allowing God to fill you up with His healing power and love.
