Careless words vs careful ones
One evening,I got a call from the school bus attendant on my son's way back from school . Boy - it's no exaggeration when I say that every mom has many unwanted thoughts popping up in their head when they see any number that's associated with the school or the bus ringing on their phone !!!
However to my amusement this lady was upset of something my son said to a peer that triggered out a whole unwanted ruckus in the bus. Apparently a kid was snatching things from my son and teasing him and he was so upset and mad that he called that boy an “idiot “🤣
Well well it was just an opportune time for me to tell my hubby - told you so -never use words carelessly specially when we have our child around . He uses that word quite generously while driving to every single person on the road who drives insanely . Though the person on the road would never have heard it, me and my son would have heard it over and over many times .
So apparently our boy told the lady on the bus - what’s wrong with the word ??? As it pretty normal to use it 🤪. Oops and did that go down well ??
I had to call the lady and apologise on behalf of my son. I admitted to the fact that using the word was unwarranted for as there were many younger kids who would not have been exposed to a word like that !!!! (Really ???) I did not have an issue in apologising nor in being accountable for my son's behaviour . It came from a place of being less egocentric and being humble not because I was always one , but because of who God has caused me to become . Being humble or becoming less in front of someone does not make you small but elevates your position in what you are becoming and brings great reward in your walk with GOD .
It's another thing that many of us parents may not even know the many uncouth or the very COOL words that the current millennial kids uses and for which you may have to check back with Prof. Google for clarification!! But whatever said and done, let us be mindful of the words that we use in our conversations, carelessly or even mindfully . For when we are swearing or shouting, children are listening -even when you think they are not .
Words when directed to someone can have an impact. It can hurt or heal , have a negative or positive impact, it can build or tear relationships, resolve issues or deteriorate situations, bring together or tear apart !
So let's tame our tongue , for the WORD of God says :
“But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:36-37
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Proverbs 15:1
“The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.” Proverbs 15:4
The best one is “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.” Proverbs 4:23
So be mindful of your hearts and guard it as much as we tame our tongue - for whatever we say springs from the goodness or bitterness of our hearts !
Amen. Thank you Mini. So true!!!!
